Barack Obama- The afrobeat stars have both made it on the latest list of the former US President’s musical faves

Anyone that follows former US President Barack Obama and his summer playlists, will know that they’re such a big deal.

So Ayra Starr, the singer heralding a new age of Afrobeat, will be smiling that she’s made Obama’s new summer playlist – alongside fellow Nigerian, global star Burna Boy.

The 44th American president revealed his hallowed list on Twitter yesterday – and included on it were Burna Boy’s Sittin’ On Top Of The World and Ayra Starr’s Sability, the only two afrobeat numbers to make it on there.

They’re obviously two of the former leader’s go-to’s – Burn’s mega hit Last Last and Arya’s stunning debut single, Rush, were two of his favourites of 2022.

Sharing his latest eclectic playlist, which also includes tracks from Tupac Shakur, Tina Turner and Bob Dylan, Obama tweeted, “Like I do every year, here are some songs I’ve been listening to this summer — a mix of old and new. Look forward to hearing what I’ve missed.’

Afrobeat afficionados will already know that Obama has previously included tracks from stars like Tems, Wizkid and Rema.

In fact, he gave Rema – now a global star – a huge boost in America and beyond, when the Benin boy’s track Iron Man, from his debut EP, made it on his 2019 summer playlist.
