Multiple award-winning global star and Queen of Afrobeats Tiwa Savage is returning to her roots this year with a headline show at the OVO Arena Wembley on November 26th, with tickets on general sale today July 7th 2023.
Not only, as she says, is playing London’s iconic Wembley Arena a ‘full circle’ moment – she’s also making history – as the first female Afrobeats star to headline there on November 26th, with tickets on general sale today.
Tiwa Savage will be the first female Afrobeat star to play Wembley Ovo Arena
Tiwa last month released new single Pick Up, a follow-up to the global hit, Stamina, which features fellow Nigerian artists Young Jonn and Ayra Starr – which peaked at No. 15 on Official UK Charts Company.
And somehow, this week exactly, we are a decade on from the release of the star’s feted debut album, Once Upon A Time. Crazy! Isn’t it?
The Somebody’s Son singer appeared on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, to talk about her big London show – and about how she was actually raised in Wembley.
‘And the funny thing is, it’s actually full circle because I lived and grew up in Wembley with my family. I got kicked off of ‘X-Factor’ in Wembley,’ she said, reflecting on the achievement.
‘But guess what? I’m coming back now to shut it down in Wembley Arena. So, the moral of that story is, when they tell you, ‘No,’ you come back and tell them or show them why they should have told you, ‘Yes.’”
Tiwa Savage is on a stadium takeover this year
It’s a ‘full circle’ moment for Nigerian Afrobeats star Tiwa Savage, who is returning to Wembley – where she was raised – for a history-making show at the iconic arena…
The ’Queen of Afrobeats’ also talked about her work with George Michael to Sam Smith to Beyonce, her single ‘Pick Up’ and how she became the first Nigerian artist to appear at a royal show, after performing at the King’s Coronation this year.
She was also impressed to hear former Labour MP, GMB host Ed Balls, tell her he’d been to some top clubs in Lagos and loved her music, prompting her shocked reply, ‘Wow, he’s a real G!’ (instantly becoming our favourite moment of that interview, we have to say).
The star, 43, who dropped most recent album, Celia, in 2020 (the following year releasing her Water & Garri EP), also heads off on a tour of North America this year, beginning in Washington DC on Aug 24th and taking in cities including New York City, Toronto, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.
Tiwa Savage’s London gig is sure to be emotional
Back in May, of course – hot on the heels of Sarkodie’s reimagined Stir it up in January, she dropped her collaboration, Waiting In Vain, with legendary reggae group Bob Marley And The Wailers.
Speaking of the collaboration she said, ‘Bob Marley is an iconic artist who is revered in my home country, Nigeria, and all over Africa. His music and message are just as relevant today as it was when they were first released all those years ago. I’m so I’m love with this record, and it is a complete honour to be part of this great project.’
Tiwa Savage’s star is on a powerful trajectory. Match that with the amount of energy she’s been putting into bringing her music to fans in high-energy performances, it’s showing no signs of stopping.
